FREE RELEASE TUESDAY: Honor Chicagoland Veterans at the American Pride 2nd Annual Benefit Car Show in Hines

Let’s show appreciation for United States Veterans. From 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, August 21 raise money for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at the American Pride 2nd Annual Benefit Car Show at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital (5000 S. 5th Ave., Hines; 708-202-8387). The car show features a pig roast, food, door prizes and a 50/50 raffle. All proceeds benefit the Voluntary Service, Department of Veterans Affairs.

Registration for the American Pride 2nd Annual Benefit Car Show is 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. The entry fee is $20. The show is presented by Thunder Road Productions, LinJen Promotions and Source One Events. The rain date for this event is Sunday, August 22.

Transport to Mexico with weekly specials and live music at Guanajuato in Glencoe

Enjoy the upbeat sounds of a live trio band while dining on authentic Mexican cuisine and escape to Mexico at Guanajuato, a new contemporary Mexican restaurant in Chicago’s North Shore. Guanajuato offers weekly dinner specials, plus live music 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Friday and Saturday.

Guanajuato, named for the beautiful state in the central highlands of Mexico where executive chef/owner Margarita Challenger was born, offers rotating lunch and dinner specials every week. New August additions arrive at May Street Market in Chicago

BYOBEER Menu with Growing Power
May Street Market partners with local farm Growing Power to offer a week long BYOBEER Menu offered at dinner from Thursday, August 19 through Thursday, August 26. The four course dinner is $29 per person.

Start with an appetizer, Chilled Corn Soup with smoked tilapia, cilantro pesto and corn nuts, or Chicken Liver Truffle Spread, grilled dark rye and fig compote. The second course, the salad, include Pig’s Head, black garlic aioli, salad bouquet and pickled cabbage, or Fried Green Tomato, vine ripened tomato salad, lemon and olive oil vinaigrette, and zucchini chutney. For the main course, try Sous Vide/Grilled Hanger Steak, heirloom carrot salad and chive spaetzle, or Seared Scallop, roasted plums, Bari Foods’ Barese sausage, goat cheese and artichoke puree. Finally, indulge in Chocolate Fondant Cake with Dragson’s Milk ice cream, Terry’s Toffee orange blossom and lavender syrup, or Whipped Sweet Ricotta, with peaches and honey drizzle, for dessert.

Enjoy a $20 three-course prix fixe meal throughout the month of August at Karma. Start with a choice of Miso Soup, tofu and roasted nori, or Karma House Salad, crisp lettuce, napa cabbage, cucumber, daikon and carrot ginger dressing. Entrée selections include Jumbo Thai Vegetarian Spring Roll, carrots, napa cabbage, marinated tofu and sweet chili sauce; Orange Peel Tempura Chicken, sesame jasmine rice, ginger chili cucumber salad and Yuzu orange glaze; or Thai Chili Beef, stir fried spiced beef tenderloin with Chinese noodles and baby bok choy, in mirin-miso beef broth (may be substituted for shrimp or chicken).
