Hallmark Guitars introduces new Barris model guitars at Carquest World of Wheels

Hallmark Guitars, known for modern designs, high quality and things that you can't find in your average guitars, is releasing official licensed Barris Model Guitars at the Carquest World of Wheels. Pre-orders will be available in a few weeks at the Hallmark website You can get a sneak peek in Chicago starting today and through Sunday at McCormick Place. Kurman Clients on WGN TV's Midday News

The 47th Annual CARQUEST World of Wheels, presented by South Oak Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep is rolling into town this weekend at Chicago's McCormick Place-Lakeside and WGN TV anchor Steve Sanders had the scoop on the Midday news today. Bob Millard from The Car Show Association brought the eye-catching "Atomic Punk" hot rod to the WGN studios and talked to Sanders about the show running Jan. 23-25, along with more than 400 custom cars and motorcycles like the Atomic Punk.

Later on in WGN's Midday News segment, Executive Chef Robert Packer of pan-Asian restaurant Karma (510 E. Route 83, Mundelein; 847-970-6900) helped WGN anchor Dina Bair prepare Crispy Golden Pork Won Ton, a special dish off Karma's Chinese New Year menu to celebrate the Year of the Ox. Glen Prairie Hosts Wine Pairing Dinner January 29

To kick off 2009, Glen Prairie Local Flavor Fine Food & Drink (1250 Roosevelt Rd., Glen Ellyn; 630-613-1250) will host a wine dinner at 6 p.m. Thursday, January 29 featuring the green-farmed wines of J. Lohr Vineyards, and highlighting Midwestern cuisine. J. Lohr Vineyards representative, Steve Kosirog, joins Glen Prairie Executive Chef Daniel Ovanin for this four-course wine and food-pairing event. The dinner is $52 per person and reservations are required.

Not only will guests savor the four-course meal, paired with selections from J. Lohr Vineyards, but will also have the opportunity to learn about winemaking. Kosirog will teach guests about winemaking activities such as the use of a Stelvin cap and what it means to the wine industry, and the differences between Shiraz and Syrah, among others.

The four-course meal features local farm-sourced, sustainable treats. The first course includes Poached Pear Salad, Mindoro Blue Cheese, spiced walnuts, red onions and citrus vinaigrette, paired with J. Lohr Late Harvest Riesling (2006). The second course, enjoy Sage Marinated Seared Amish Chicken, gnocchi with applewood bacon confit and porcini mushroom broth, paired with J. Lohr October Night Chardonnay (2006).

Cleanse the palate with an Intermezzo, then savor course three: Seared Colorado Baby Lamb Chops, caramelized onion, potato latke and port glaze, paired with J. Lohr South Ridge Syrah (2006). For the final course, indulge in Flourless Dark Chocolate Mini Cake, with cinnamon cream, paired with J. Lohr Hilltop Cabernet (2005).

Valentine’s Day Spend a music-filled Valentine’s Day at Dine, featuring jazz guitarist Lee Barrie from 6:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. February 14. Barrie’s smooth jazz will serenade guests, while Dine offers a special Valentine’s Day menu Friday February 13, and Saturday February 14 in addition to its regular menu.

For starters, choose from Spice Rubbed Prime Tenderloin, Champagne vinaigrette, Brussels sprouts-horseradish salad ($11), or West Coast Evening Cove Oysters with a trio of caviars ($12). Enjoy Dine’s special Valentine’s Day soup, Oregon Pink Shrimp Bisque, with orange fennel relish and tempura shrimp ($7). Celebrities to attend CARQUEST World of Wheels in Chicago, Jan. 23-25

The 47th Annual CARQUEST World of Wheels, presented by South Oak Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep is quickly approaching. Aside from the hundreds of custom hot rods and motorcycles that will be at the event Jan. 23-25, the lineup includes a number of guest appearances from celebrities, including:

George Barris, "King of Kustomizers" and creator of the original Batmobile in TV's "Batman" starring Adam West; the Monkee Mobile from TV's "The Monkees"; the 1980s KITT Firebird from TV's "Knight Rider" and Drag-U-La from "The Munsters." These cars will all be at the show as part of a special tribute to America's Coolest TV Cars. Barris is lucky enough to be receiving a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the Legends of Motorsports Guild during a special brunch Saturday morning. You can meet Barris yourself Friday, 7 p.m.-9 p.m., Saturday, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. or Sunday, 1 p.m.-4 p.m.

Also at the event will be original member of "The Monkees," Micky Dolenz. Catch him at CARQUEST World of Wheels Saturday, 12:30 p.m.-5 p.m. A portion of Dolenz' proceeds from attending the event will be donated to the Make A Wish Foundation, a charity that he is very fond of.

Two-time Indy 500 Winner and Season Five "Dancing with the Stars" champ, Helio Castroneves will be on hand Sunday 1 p.m.-3:30 p.m.

Other celebrity appearances include Moises Arias, known as "Rico" on Disney's Hannah Montana (Sunday, Noon-4 p.m.) plus Wolf and Venom from "American Gladiators" on Saturday, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m.

Chinese New Year begins on January 26, 2009, and Karma Asian Food and Wine is offering their special Chinese New Year menu in addition to their standard menus from January 26 through January 31, during both lunch and dinner service.
