About A Silver Lining Foundation
Since the Buy A Mom A Mammogram program's inception in 2006, ASLF has provided more than 2,500 women with information about and access to no cost screening mammograms. In response to the growing number of women needing follow up due to a possible abnormality, the foundation began funding diagnostic testing in 2007. Since its launch in 2002 by Dr. Sandy Goldberg, ASLF has provided more than 450,000 people with information about cancer resources, treatment options and support services.

The philosophy of the foundation is based on two phrases Dr. Goldberg's late mother used to live by: “No matter what your situation, you have to see the silver lining,” and “We are all family, and we have to help each other through the tough times.” With 59 million Americans currently living without health insurance, the Buy A Mom A Mammogram program provides a silver lining to those in need.

ASLF’s administrative offices are located at 134 N. LaSalle, Ste. 1218, Chicago, 60602. The organization runs three cancer related programs: Buy A Mom A Mammogram, the Chicagoland Cancer Information Coalition (CCIC) and The Evelyn Goldberg Center at the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago. A Sterling Event: An Astounding Success

Despite hard economic times, on October 4, 2008 the compassion and goodwill of 327 party-goers shone bright at the 4th Annual A Sterling Event.

This black-tie gala thrown in honor of A Silver Lining Foundation (ASLF), founded by Dr. Sandy Goldberg, was a resounding success in the fight against breast cancer.

Hosts NBC5’s Rob Elgas and Ginger Zee kept the night running smoothly
while singer Ron Hawking kept the audience entertained with his witty “Lady is a Champ” (reworded to the tune of “Lady is a Tramp”) dedicated to Dr. Sandy Goldberg.

There was much excitement, including many raffles offering prizes such as a trip to London, and a hilarious game of heads-or-tails involving hot pink glow-in-the-dark necklaces and willing party-goers.

Guests were treated to a thrilling live auction, run by Auctioneer David Goodman. Among the amazing auction items were a trip to Costa Rica and a trip to Los Angeles.

During ASLF’s Buy a Mom a MammogramTM auction, the room was filled with raised auction paddles in an effort to help under-insured and uninsured women receive mammograms and follow-up care. Overall, the money raised from this auction will obtain approximately 1,100 mammograms for women throughout the Chicagoland area.

Donna Thompson, RN, MS was honored as the 2008 Evy Award Recipient, while ASLF was honored to welcome five more hospitals to its growing list of hospital partners; The University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago and Northwest Community Hospital are joined by Ingalls Memorial Hospital, Loyola University Health System, Sinai Health System, South Shore Hospital and Swedish Covenant Hospital.

A Sterling Event’s guests have much to celebrate. Not only has the evening raised double the amount of 2007’s A Sterling Event, but ASLF will surely raise even more via donations throughout the year for its programs against breast cancer.
Can there possibly be a more wonderful reason to celebrate?
Yes there is.

October 4 was named by Chicago’s Mayor Richard M. Daley, as A Silver Lining Foundation Day.

Cheers to Dr. Sandy Goldberg and A Silver Lining Foundation!

Give Mom the Gift of Life for Mother's Day

Don’t know what to get Mom for Mother’s Day? Not even sure when Mother’s Day is? First of all, Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 11 (mark it in your calendar.) Second, if you’re stumped on what to buy the woman who gave you the gift of life, maybe you could give her the same gift. Confused?

A Silver Lining Foundation, which provides uninsured people with information on cancer resources, treatment options and support services, uses its Buy A Mom A Mammogram™ program to fund no cost screening mammograms to qualifying women in a timely and respectful fashion. To purchase a mammogram for your mother (or anyone’s mother, or sister, or daughter, or aunt… etc.), visit A Silver Lining Foundation’s Web site at http://www.asilverliningfoundation.org/, or call them at (312) 345-1322, or visit these three area Jewel-Osco locations throughout the month of May:

May 3, 2008; 7530 South Stony Island, Chicago; 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
May 9, 2008; 440 East Rand Road, Arlington Heights; 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
May 10, 2008; 1220 South Ashland, Chicago; 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Representatives from A Silver Lining Foundation, including founder and breast cancer survivor Dr. Sandy Goldberg (also NBC-5’s nutrition expert), will be at each location to pre-qualify women for these no-cost screening mammograms.

If visiting Jewel-Osco isn’t your style (where do you buy your groceries?), stop by Flirty Girl Fitness™, a women’s lifestyle facility located in Chicago’s West Loop. For every new member that signs up before May 31, Flirty Girl Fitness™ will buy a mom a mammogram through A Silver Lining Foundation.

Now you have a gift for Mother’s Day and you know when Mother’s Day is. Don’t forget to buy her a card.
