Living Healthy Chicago Visits the Chicago French Market

Could you prepare a delicious meal for two for less than $20? That’s the challenge that you’ll find on one of Chicago’s most fun television shows that airs frequently on CLTV and starting this Sunday, October 30, at 11:30 a.m. on WGN. Living Healthy Chicago, starring WLUP diva and personality host Jane Monzures, stopped by the Chicago French Market Wednesday for the second time to film a segment.

Joining Jane was nutrition knowledgeable Chef Joe Rosetti from Market Bar on Randolph. The challenge was not only to create a meal for under $20, but to make it healthy and local. Chicago French Market offers a number of farm stand vendors selling local, fresh vegetables and many organics.

During their visit, Joe and Jane shopped at Produce Express, Pastoral Artisan Cheese Bread & Wine, Chicago Organics and City Fresh Market to pick up the necessities. The rather humorous Joe was holding out in telling Jane what was on the menu and made a game of keeping her guessing until the end. Kale here. Scallions there. Turnips. Ground turkey. Bread. Cheese. What could they be making?

As Jane and Joe made their way through the market, they sampled a little bit of what each vendor has to offer and were amazed at the quality of food they could find for such a reasonable price! From the locally grown fresh produce to delicious gourmet cheeses to great-tasting bread, they were impressed with what the market had to offer. They got a great selection of ingredients and still had change left over! Carrie sat down with WGN anchor Dina Bair, and they chatted about the importance of early detection and making charitable contributions even in hard economic times.

Back To School Already!?

It's already August, which means it's time to get ready for school. Summer may have flown by, but WGN-TV and Sweet Baby Ray's will help Chicago area kids gear up for the school year with the TV station's 7th annual "WGN-TV Back-to-School Kids Fair."

The free fair will feature food, fun, health screenings, safety tips and everything parents and kids need to prepare for school. Be sure to visit the Sweet Baby Ray's booth to watch demonstrations on how to pack healthy school lunches, sample the restaurant's award-winning ribs and pick up Sweet Baby Ray's activity booklets and cups.

Showing Off Shochu on Wayne's Weekend

NBC-5’s Wayne Johnson was kind enough to invite Shochu Executive Chef/Partner Josh Hansen to NBC this morning to demonstrate how to make grilled small plate dishes featured at Shochu. Wayne’s recent visits to Shochu inspired him to host a dinner party featuring grilled small plates, and he enlisted Josh to share his knowledge on Wayne's Weekend. Chef Josh demonstrated two yakitori, or grilled, skewers: bacon wrapped quail and shrimp with Asian pear. A thunderstorm may have ravaged Chicago last night, but this morning it was nice enough to have the segment outside on the Plaza!

This was Chef Josh’s second TV segment of the week! Shochu’s television star also appeared on WGN-TV’s noon news Lunchbreak segment on Monday, June 2, to demonstrate grilled skirt steak lettuce wraps and the shrimp with Asian pear yakitori.

Dine on WGN-TV

Dine’s executive chef, Chris Turano, made his live television debut yesterday on WGN-TV’s Noon News. Chef Chris prepared fresh Grilled Copper River Salmon, served with fresh corn, ramps, and fingerling potatoes.

Copper River Salmon is unique from other salmon in that it has a large amount of fat in the meat, and because of that, it self lubricates during cooking and is much easier to handle on the grill than other fish. The fish has about 7% higher fat content than farmed salmon and contains high amounts of omega 3 fatty acids, which help lower amounts of bad cholesterol.
