RSVP for Green City Market's Final Edible Garden Workshop October 18

The Edible Gardens are one of Green City Market's primary educational outreach programs and consist of over 5000 square feet of beautiful, organically grown vegetables, fruits, herbs, grains and flowers. Open to the public
fall garden_300through the November growing season, the gardens offer Chicagoans the opportunity to connect with the process of growing healthy, delicious food. The 2014 garden theme has been The Columbian Exchange, a phrase coined by historian Alfred Crosby in reference to the exchange of plants, animals, people, ideas and disease that took place between the Old World (Europe, Asia, Africa) and the New World (the Americas) following Christopher Columbus' historic voyages from Europe to the Americas beginning in 1492.

Did you know that prior to 1492 there were no tomatoes in Italy, no potatoes in Ireland, no wheat in the Americas and no chili peppers in Thailand or India? Guests visit the garden and take a trip back in time through the New World back to the Old world and learn how the crops traveled to the countries they now define.

In addition to welcoming drop-in visitors to the gardens, Green City Market offers free hands-on gardening workshops and hosts scheduled field trips throughout the year.

One workshop remains this year.
